FAQ

What You Need to Know

Everything you need to know before starting your next roofing project, including inspections, repairs, replacements, materials, warranties, and what to expect throughout the entire process.

How can extreme heat affect my roof, and what steps can I take to protect it?

The Mechanics of Heat Warping
When asphalt shingles are subjected to extreme heat, the petroleum-based asphalt core softens, expands, and loses its structural rigidity. Curling and Cupping: The edges of the shingles begin to lift upward (cupping) or the corners turn under (curling) as the internal fiberglass or organic mat unevenly expands and contracts. Thermal Shock: Rapid shifts from peak afternoon heat to sudden summer downpours or cool nights cause violent contraction, cracking the brittle asphalt layer. Adhesive Failure: The factory-applied self-sealing strips melt and lose their grip, allowing loosened, warped shingles to blow off completely in a high wind.

The Role of Poor Attic Ventilation
Inadequate attic ventilation acts as a force multiplier for summer heat damage, essentially baking the roof from both sides. Double-Sided Cooking: Without proper ridge, soffit, or gable vents, stagnant air trapped in the attic can surpass 140°F, forcing heat upward into the roof deck while the sun pounds it from above. Thermal Blistering: Trapped moisture or volatile gases within the shingle become superheated, rising to the surface to form expanding bubbles. Popped Blisters: As the heat peaks, these blisters pop, shedding the protective mineral granules and exposing the raw, vulnerable asphalt to rapid UV oxidation.

Accompanying Summer Heat Damage
Granule Loss: Softened asphalt loses its physical hold on the top layer of mineral granules, which then wash away into the gutters, stripping the roof of its primary UV shield. Asphalt Bleeding: The liquid bitumen can liquefy to the point of "bleeding" or weeping down the roof slopes, creating dark, unsightly streaks and weakening the shingles' water-shedding capabilities.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most residential roof replacements are completed within 1–3 days depending on the size and complexity of the project.
Do you offer free inspections?
Yes. We provide free roof inspections and detailed estimates with no obligation.
Will insurance cover my roof damage?
Insurance may cover storm, hail, or wind damage depending on your policy.
What roofing materials do you install?
We install asphalt shingles, metal roofing, tile roofing, and other premium roofing systems.
